Graduate Student Day

Attention all new and returning Graduate Students!

Graduate Student day is Sept. 8 starting at 8:00 am with registration. WarChild Canada

War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected children around the world. War Child Canada helps generate awareness, support and advocacy for children's rights everywhere.

Through the proceeds of the CD "War Child: 10", War Child Canada is currently supporting disaster relief efforts in Haiti. In addition, it continually assists children in other war-torn areas of the world who are progressively facing troublesome times with increased attacks, recruitment as soldiers, and lack of access to food and other basic necessities. While it is easy to spread oneself thin with all of the charities and causes out there, even seeing a link to War Child Canada and seeing the some ways people can assist can greatly help children's lives. especially in Haiti right now. Getting the word out can help others to learn about the issues and fight for the rights of children across the globe.

On January 12, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. Students, Faculty and Staff are encouraged to join recovery efforts mobilizing around the world to assist earthquake victims. Any, and every, donation counts, and will help disaster victims rebuild their lives and their communities.

Congratulations Kyle Siler!

Kyle Siler, who did an MA at McMaster and is now a PhD student at Cornell, just had his research on gambling and risk profiled as a top story in Time Magazine. Congratulations Kyle!

SSHRC Awarded to Dr. Satzewich

Dr. Satzewich who has been awarded a 3-year standard research grant, the title of which is "Administrative Discretion and Canadian Immigration Policy."

He was also successful on a SSHRC grant in which he is the co-investigator with Linda Mahood, "British and Canadian Responses to Famine in Russia and Ukraine, 1921-23."

Positive Review for Dr. Fetner's Book

Congratulations to Dr. Fetner whose new book How the Religious Right Shaped Lesbian and Gay Activism received positive reviews in the latest edition journal Mobilization. The first line of the review, by Kimberly Dugan, says it all:

Tina Fetner’s groundbreaking How the Religious Right Shaped Lesbian and Gay Activism is a must read for anyone interested in the opposing social movement interface.

The review isn't posted online, but we'll be putting a copy up for you to read here after we work out a few server problems. Check back in a day or two!
