Brown Bag Breakfast!

The first Brown Bag Breakfast will be held on:
Tuesday November 15th
From 10am to 11:30am in KTH 712.
---
Becky Casey will be presenting her dissertation topic as well as her methodological apporach:

Studying injured workers – Focus on health status and health experiences

Health status and health care experiences of people with physical impairments are often different than the experiences of those without physical impairments. In this research I will study the differences in health status and health care experiences of injured workers with permanent impairments, people with physical impairments for other reasons and non-disabled people. There is a focus on injured workers as they often face negative stereotypes and stigma associated with the label ‘injured worker’ which may impact their health status and health care experiences.

For the purpose of the brownbag breakfast I will be talking about the methodologies used in the three research projects for my dissertation. I will be using longitudinal multilevel analysis, binary logistic regression and narrative analysis in my dissertation.
---
Of course, don't forget to Bring Your Own Breakfast!

If you are interested in presenting your own work for the next up-coming BBB please get in touch with Jessica Braimoh at braimoja@mcmaster.ca!

THE CHANGING SOCIOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE STEEL INDUSTRY

Thursday, November 24, 2011
1:00 p.m.
Togo Salmon Hall 719

ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!!

---
Dr. Peter Warrian

Senior Research Fellow, Munk School for Global Affairs, University of Torontoa former Research Director of the United Steelworkers of America and Chief Economist of the Province of Ontario.

The famous business historian Alfred Chandler (1962) observed that steel was the only major industry not to have adapted the multi-divisional (M) model for the modern corporation. Steel retained a unitary, hierarchical structure of authority, skill and knowledge flows. It meant that steel companies only learned what their engineers learned. The ownership change in recent years means that Canadian steel management must now adapt to new global steel HR norms, best practices and knowledge flows.

Stress Management Workshop

The TA Network is presenting an interesting workshop on Tuesday October 11th at 10:00-11:00 in KTH 712. Jennifer Meister (Academic Skills Program Coordinator from the Student Success Centre) will be speaking on Time and Stress Management. This is a workshop useful to all students - even if you are not a TA!

Jennifer will be offering numerous tips and pieces of advice to get you motivated, keep you organized, and balance your time. We encourage everyone to attend.

Ironically, we all seem to "have no time" and have "too much stress" to attend these workshops. We're really hoping that you all come out to this workshop, as the goal is to teach you how to prioritize your time, and minimize your stress - the excuses "I had no time" and "I was too stressed" cannot be an excuse for missing this workshop!

See you on Tuesday!
